Keep the flame away from moving air

It’s best to keep the candle away from fans, air conditioners, or heavily trafficked areas.  Moving air can disturb the flame, leaving the sides of the jar with unsightly black marks.

Burn the candle for 3-4 hours.

The first time you light your candle try to leave it lit for 3-4 hours to avoid a tunneling effect.

Let the wax melt all the way across the candle, this typically takes about an hour.  It is important to let the whole top surface of the candle turn to liquid the first time you light it so that it then burns evenly to the bottom layer by layer.

Trim Your Wick.

Always ensure your wicks are ¼ inch long before lighting.

Wicks often build up a “mushroom” cap when lit for long periods of time. Lighting it will lead to the crackle and pop of soot. To avoid this, cut your wick right before lighting either with a pair of scissors or a wick trimmer.  You can use your fingers or even chopsticks to remove a burnt tip!

Snuff your candle.

Learned this one the hard way...

Blowing on your candle can cause hot wax to splatter on your face and fill your room with smoke. By using a snuffer you not only protect yourself, but also the wick from getting blown over into the hot wax.

Stop at

½ Inch.

When 1/2” wax remains, discontinue use.  This keeps you and your furniture safe. When candles are burned below this level the container can get hot and burn you or the surface your candle is sitting on.

Another trick is to place the jar in the freezer for a few minutes until the wax has hardened and it should pop right out with little residue. The jar can then be cleaned with warm, soapy water and reused.
